Mike Stokes becomes founding Director of the Australian operation of Chesterton International, establishing decades of expertise in major capital transactions, finance and development.

1999

Somerset is founded

Created to fill a gap in the market for bespoke luxury residences on Sydney's Lower North Shore — a boutique developer of luxury homes, later expanding into multi-storey luxury apartments.

2003–06

The team takes shape

Maryanne Collins joins to lead interiors, followed by Rod Clarke directing project delivery — a partnership defined by design ambition and uncompromising quality control.

2015

Chesterton International sold

Somerset, the largest controlling shareholder, sells Chesterton International (Australia) to ASX-listed Transfield Services, sharpening its sole focus: luxury residences, townhouses and apartments in Sydney.

2020s

Heritage masterworks

The three-year restoration of Valhalla — part of the last intact row of Victorian terraces in Australia — alongside modern harbour-side masterpieces at Rabat and Cambria.

An Estate Management graduate and Chartered Surveyor from the UK, Mike founded the Australian operation of Chesterton International in 1987, and Somerset in 1999.

His background in major capital transactions, finance and development continues to drive Somerset's growth and innovation.

Project Director

Rod Clarke

Dip. Financial Markets

Rod joined Somerset in 2006, bringing strong organisational discipline and a passion for construction and innovation.

He is responsible for project delivery, quality control and post-completion servicing — ensuring enduring relationships with Somerset's clients and consultants.

Maryanne joined Somerset in 2003 following work with Vogue London. Her style is bold and adventurous — from P&O to Grand Federation to contemporary.
